Kidney failure is a serious medical condition where the kidneys lose their ability to effectively filter the blood and remove excess toxins and fluid from our body. This disease can be chronic or develop suddenly, and requires immediate treatment. Today, hemodialysis is the most effective method of treating kidney failure.
What is hemodialysis?

Hemodialysis is a procedure in which the patient's blood is passed through an artificial kidney machine or dialyzer. The dialyzer helps to clean the blood of excess substances and excess fluid that cannot be removed naturally through the kidneys. In simple words, this device simulates the work of the kidneys and cleanses the blood of various toxins or excess substances.
There are two main methods through which hemodialysis is carried out. The first is hemodialysis itself, where blood is pumped through a dialyzer, where it is cleaned of all excess, and then returned to the body. The second method is peritoneal dialysis, in which a special liquid, dialysate, is introduced into the abdominal cavity, and it works as a filter.
Advantages and limitations
Hemodialysis has several advantages, among which it is important to note the accuracy and control of the process. High-tech hemodialysis machines provide reliable regulation of the levels of toxins, potassium, sodium and other substances in the patient's blood. This allows to reduce the risk of complications and improve the general condition of the patient. Many patients receiving hemodialysis experience a marked improvement in quality of life and duration.
However, hemodialysis is not a perfect method and has its limitations. Among the main limitations is the need for regular hemodialysis procedures. Many patients have to go to dialysis 2-3 times a week, which can significantly limit their rhythm of life. In addition, the process of hemodialysis can be long, taking a significant amount of time, which can negatively affect the psychological state of the patient. In addition, not all hospitals in Ukraine have a hemodialysis department, and some patients have to travel to neighboring cities to receive the procedure.
Also, hemodialysis can cause certain complications. In particular, infections and formation of blood clots in dialysis machines. These complications require careful monitoring and timely treatment, which can burden medical staff and increase treatment costs.
Conclusion
Unfortunately, kidney failure cannot be completely cured, but with the help of hemodialysis, the patient's quality and life expectancy can be significantly improved. Our foundation is focused on helping patients with kidney failure, as we believe in the availability of hemodialysis for our people. Help our foundation provide the treatment Ukrainians deserve!
